Aquariums, hydroponics, and aquaponics need oxygen. Airstones introduce a little oxygen into the water with their bubbles, but the majority of the oxygen needed by fish, and aquatic reptiles comes from the bubbles breaking the water’s surface.
Good surface movement is vital to the gas exchange that allows the gas from the water to be exchanged for oxygen from the air. DIY Bubble Wall or Column and Decor:
Link together several air stones with air tubing to create a chain. You will need air tube connectors to create branches for each of the airstone with the last stone attached to the end of the air tubing. Lay your chain across the back wall of your aquarium for a bubble wall or form a circle to create a bubble column. Air stones add movement and can be creatively placed to add special effects. Place behind greens to add swaying flora or to highlight special features by placing the air stone behind showpieces. Place air stones behind a private ship to add a mysterious aura. Experiment and discover new effects for your aquascape.
