Openings in the shroud align with the feeding ports, providing birds access to the food. When a squirrel climbs onto the feeder, its weight automatically forces the shroud down, closing access to the ports. Squirrels and some large birds are foiled but not harmed in any way.
The Squirrel Buster Finch can be converted into a clinging feeder only, by removing the perches. The absence of perches will help deter large nuisance birds from using the feeder.
The seed ports have perches for perching birds and the wire shroud provides a surface area for clinging birds. This increases your bird traffic.

The Negative Grip Tube prevents squirrels from grabbing the hanger with their hind legs, hanging down alongside the feeder and defeating the closing mechanism.
Remember it’s a squirrel’s weight that triggers the closing mechanism. If a squirrel can reach over from a nearby foothold and avoid placing his weight on the feeder, he can access the birdseed. To overcome this problem, allow for at least 18 in/47 cm of clearance around the feeder. This will force the squirrel to climb onto the feeder and trigger the closing mechanism.

All our bird feeders are designed to be dismantled by hand into individual components without the use of tools. This allows for easy cleaning and maintenance.
Our patented Seed Tube Ventilation permits humidity and hot air to escape through vents at the top of the feeder and replaces it with fresh air. Bird food remains fresher, attracting more wild birds.
Nyjer is an oily tasty seed that, unfortunately, dries out too fast in hot dry conditions or goes bad when exposed to moisture. When buying Nyjer, check that its color is still shiny and black. Brownish and dull-looking seeds are no longer fresh, and birds won’t touch them. Purchase only enough to last you no more than several weeks.
