The active ingredient in Safer Brand Caterpillar Killer is a naturally-occurring bacterium called Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki. Caterpillars and certain leaf-feeding worms have a specific pH in their guts that causes the bacterium to release a toxin in their blood as soon as they ingest it. This reaction immediately stops them from feeding, and eventually kills them. In this way, Safer Brand Caterpillar Killer not only protects your plants, but also prevents further infestation by breaking the breeding cycle.
