About this item: Featuring a textured surface made of aluminum, this African mask is hand-carved from local sese wood by Ghanaian artisan Awudu Saaed. Presenting an original design, he accentuates the mask with brown cotton twine, naming it Kotoku, or "sack" in the Akan language. Features a rustic, rugged finish. Hand-crafted item -- color, size and/or motif may vary slightlyIntended as wall decor.
About our Artist: Ghana's Awudu Saaed says, When I was a boy, I'd follow friends home after school. Their parents had a carving workshop. They noticed my interest and let me try sandpapering the carved items, then I began learning how to design and finish a piece. I had to drop out of school due to financial difficulties and I started working on my own. I was determined to make it and was able to put my siblings through school. Now my dream is to further my education and expand my workshop to be able to train more people.
