Hummingbird Feeder Tube

Best Tips to Prevent Tubes from Leaking

  1. Use a small container approximately 12oz.
  2. Container MUST be airtight when installed.
  3. Fill feeder with 1/4 nectar.
  4. Make sure feeder tube is inserted all the way into rubber stopper but not extending beyond it.
  5. Keep feeder and tube clean.
  6. Hang feeder as straight as possible.
  7. Place in shade or partial shade - the cooler the nectar the less likely it is to drip.

If installed properly there will be an initial stream of nectar or some dripping. This is normal as the small amount of air pressure inside the container pushes the nectar down the tube. Once a vacuum is formed the dripping will stop.

How to Make Hummingbird Nectar

Nectar Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups water
  • 1 cup sugar

Directions:

  • In a saucepan, boil water for 1 minute. Remove pan from stove and add the sugar, stirring until it dissolves. Allow mixture to cool to room temperature. Fill your feeder no more than 1/4 full of nectar. This will help alleviate leakage. Refrigerate leftover nectar for up to 2 weeks. Be sure to clean your feeder and change the nectar often in hot weather.
