Knock Out Roses.
The plants clean themselves, dropping their spent petals to promote garden neatness, and they are perfect for grouping in the landscape, getting them established in any sunny area then letting them alone to do their thing which will be to make your landscape look great without taxing you in the care process!
The Knock Out Family of Roses will perform beautifully even without fertilizing. However, if you choose to give them an additional boost, it's very important not to fertilize until after the roses are established and go through one bloom cycle.
Feed in early spring with an organic fertilizer and during the season to maintain strong vigor. Prune back past blooms to a leaf with 7 leaflets to promote regrowth and rebloom.
Knock Out Roses are hardy to USDA Zone 4, but they will need some winter protection. They are extremely heat tolerant to USDA Zone 11, thus they will do well in the most sunny and hot of locations.
Stop deadheading roses by August or September to allow the stems to harden and form hips. If you deadhead too late, the frost can kill the stem.If you have a dry year, be sure that the rose is well watered going into fall. Cover the base of the shrub with mulch, leaves or straw to protect the crown, which is just above where the roots meet the soil. This way, even if you have an unusually cold winter that causes dieback, your roses will come back the following year. Since roses are grown on their own root, they will grow back beautifully, even after the worst of winters.
