CURT Weight Distribution Hitches
The CURT weight distribution hitch is a specialized towing system that provides improved vehicle and trailer control by leveling the trailer and more evenly distributing its weight across the vehicle's axles. Weight distribution hitches are commonly used on RVs but can also be applied to other large loads.
CURT weight distribution hitches come with a 2 x 2-inch shank and are compatible with class 3, 4 and 5 trailer hitches, including our Xtra Duty and Commercial Duty, as well as some RV trailer hitches. While a weight distribution hitch will increase the gross trailer weight capacity of most trailer hitches, the vehicle's weight carrying capacity must be taken into consideration before towing a heavier trailer.
Advantages of CURT weight distribution
Heavy-duty steel heads
2" x 2" adjustable shank with 2-1/2" option
Trunnion bar and round bar weight distribution hitches available
Forged steel spring bars
Durable black powder coat finish
Increased safety for heavy loads
CURT weight distribution hitches are designed to create a level ride across your tow vehicle and trailer. This is done by equalizing or distributing the tongue weight of the trailer more evenly onto the vehicle’s axles. CURT weight distribution hitches use steel spring bars to pry or lift up on the back end of the vehicle and move more of the trailer’s tongue weight to the front axle and rear trailer axle. While a tow vehicle’s back end might sit several inches lower with a heavy trailer, with a weight distribution hitch properly installed, this height difference is reduced and distributed across the entire vehicle-trailer combination.
Heavy-duty construction and a quality finish
CURT weight distribution hitches feature heavy-duty, cast heads and forged steel spring bars – both of which are highly adjustable to achieve the exact weight distribution necessary. To make sure our weight distribution hitches are worthy of carrying the CURT name, we coat each one in a durable powder coat finish, giving them great resilience to rust and scratches. Our weight distribution hitches are made from quality steel and comprised of expertly engineered components. From the formed hitch head, to the spring bars, to the hookup brackets and even our replacement parts, we invest our utmost quality for your satisfaction.
Multiple options to fit your towing setup
CURT weight distribution hitches come with 2 x 2-inch shanks to fit receiver-style trailer hitches of classes 3, 4 and 5. We also offer replacement weight distribution shanks in both 2 x 2-inch and 2-1/2-inch x 2-1/2-inch. CURT weight-distributing hitches are available in two styles – round bar and trunnion bar – referring to the types of spring bars used by each style. A round bar weight distribution hitch uses round spring bars attached to the underside of the weight distribution hitch head, and a trunnion bar weight distribution hitch uses square bars mounted at the face of the hitch head.
