The built-in ant-moat blocks crawling insects and the included Nectar-Guard tips on the feeding ports prevent bees, wasps, and other flying insects from contaminating the nectar The bright red covers attract hummers from a distance and remove easily so the bowl can be cleaned quickly and thoroughly. Nectar Guard tips (Item #384) easily slide onto the feeding ports on the underside of the feeder cover. The flexible membrane in the center of each tip easily opens when hummingbirds insert their beaks to feed and close up tight when beaks are removed. These create a barrier flying insects can’t penetrate.
